About the Student Support and Academic Advising Unit

The Student Support and Academic Advising Unit (SSA) plays a central role in promoting students’ academic progress and enhancing their university experience. The Unit is the primary body responsible for coordinating, supervising, and developing academic advising practices across the College. It ensures that all students receive structured, continuous, and documented support that contributes to their academic progression, behavioral development, and overall university experience.

At the academic program level, the Unit serves as an integral component of the student support system. It collaborates with program coordinators and academic advisors to align advising activities with program objectives and learning outcomes, monitor student performance, and ensure that advising interventions contribute directly to student retention, academic progression, and the attainment of Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs).

From a quality assurance perspective, the Unit operates in alignment with the standards of the National Center for Academic Accreditation and Evaluation (NCAAA) related to student support and academic advising. This includes standardizing advising procedures, maintaining verifiable evidence, and implementing continuous improvement practices through key performance indicators, feedback mechanisms, audits, and documentation cycles, in accordance with national requirements for institutional and program accreditation.

Through systematic monitoring, early identification of students at risk of academic difficulty, and continuous communication with academic departments, the Dean’s Office, and the Quality Assurance Unit, the Unit contributes to maintaining a supportive academic environment and ensuring that advising practices effectively enhance program quality and students’ university experience.

Mission

The Unit provides structured academic and behavioral support to all students through an effective advising system that includes performance monitoring, addressing academic and behavioral challenges, delivering targeted support based on student needs, and applying data-informed practices in continuous coordination with academic departments. These efforts contribute to improving academic achievement, developing learning skills, and aligning advising practices with quality standards.

Unit Objectives

The Student Support and Academic Advising Unit aims to:

  1. Promote students’ academic success by providing structured, continuous, and timely advising that supports students’ progress through their study plans, improves their performance, and reduces academic risks.

     

  2. Provide comprehensive support to different student groups, including high-achieving students, academically struggling students, and those requiring behavioral or personal guidance, thereby ensuring equitable and accessible services.

     

  3. Ensure the consistency and standardization of academic advising practices across all academic programs through standardized procedures, approved documentation forms, and clearly defined communication channels.

     

  4. Enhance the quality and effectiveness of advising processes through evidence-based follow-up, systematic monitoring, and periodic reporting to academic departments and the College administration.

     

  5. Promote student engagement and personal development by directing students to academic resources, skill-development opportunities, and university support services that enhance their educational experience.

     

  6. Link academic advising outcomes to program-level quality assurance processes, ensuring that advising interventions contribute to the attainment of Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) and improve student retention, satisfaction, and graduation rates.

     

Student Support and Academic Advising Resources

The Unit brings together the key guides, regulations, and resources required by students and academic advisors throughout the university journey. These resources help users understand academic regulations, recognize their rights and responsibilities, and benefit from the support and advising services available within the College.

The resources include the Student Support and Advising Guide, the Undergraduate Study and Examination Regulations, the Student Rights and Responsibilities Guide, the Student Code of Conduct, and other advising guides and forms that facilitate access to the appropriate information and procedures at the right time.
